Confronted with a displacement the Exiled-Self may experience a profound sense of loss, nostalgia and even death. The complexities and impositions of this new condition may generate resistance and disenchantment. Negotiations between familiar habits and the uncharted life are inevitable. But there is no such thing as a homogeneous sense of belonging or isolation. The exiled-self might also perceive displacement as an intoxicating beginning; a release from the so-called body/homeland/patria/prison/war/insanity. Are theydeserters? Patriots? Heroes? Traitors? None of the above? Welcome to the realm of ambiguity…. Self-exile is the state of endless reconfiguration. An imagined landscape, equally painful and blissful.
